Anti Atlas—Motion

Nothing is scarier than the passing of time. When I last reviewed Anti Atlas, it was their album Between Voices. I noted in the review that I listened to the album when my son was just born. That same son is 18 now, and the music is just as good as it was back then.
The Motions EP opens with the track "Wise Old Own" with a sense of foreboding, but then the chimes kick in and the tone of the track changes. The track features Supegrass' Gaz Coombes on guitar, adding that subtle sonic charge. This is very much put your headphones on and chill, or if you have a suitably swanky stereo, pump up the volume and lose yourself.
The final track of this three-track EP is “Angel Eyes.” I hope the band doesn’t mind, but in the first few seconds of edgy instrumentation, the piano that follows immediately made me think of Harry Potter. As the track unfolds, its sound broadens and develops, incorporating layered textures and subtle dynamics, yet it retains that whimsical, magical quality that gives it a Potteresque charm. The contrast between the initial edginess and the gentle piano adds a delightful tension, making it a memorable conclusion to the EP.
It's nice to see a return from Anti Atlas. I gather another release is coming towards the end of the month, a re-working of their amazing track "Cool is the Night". I'm looking forward to it.
